Windows, Recent Paintings
from studio notes (2022):
In the corner of the studio is a window that opens to a small roof terrace. I began drawing from observation and then painting here. Through color and paint, this area became a contemplative space with intertwined inside and outside, sunlight and shadow, plant and human.
Varied moves and techniques coexist in these paintings. In some passages, color relates to a direct observation; elsewhere it departs intuitively. The paintings contain mingling response. In this way, the paintings record activities of mind, perception, feeling, contemplation, and all together, a sense of simple presence.
